TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The 40th annual Han Kuang exercises entered its second day on Tuesday (July 23), facing disruptions due to Typhoon Gaemi. The military halted flight operations at the Hualien base because of adverse weather conditions and safety standards.

The military explained that they had anticipated the typhoon's potential impact and incorporated it into their planning. They are executing the exercises according to instructions and natural disaster response procedures.

The exercises include two main components: adjusting maneuvers based on weather conditions and reallocating forces for disaster preparedness. The typhoon has affected the eastern region, leading to adjustments in some sea and air operations.

Regarding air operations, the military noted that aircraft positions might not be at the Hualien base after takeoff, making the situation more complex. They will adjust operations according to weather conditions throughout the exercise.

Sea operations, which began on Monday, are proceeding under normal conditions, with risk management considerations in place. The military has not provided clear information on whether postponed operations will be rescheduled. They emphasized that all systems are under meticulous preparation, reflecting real-world enemy scenarios.
