TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC, 台積電) stated on Wednesday (Oct. 23) that it has ceased shipments to Huawei (華為) since mid-September 2020, following communication with the U.S. Department of Commerce.

TSMC's statement came in response to a report by TechInsights, a semiconductor research firm, which indicated Huawei's Ascend 910B processor uses TSMC's 7-nanometer chips.

TSMC emphasized its commitment to adhering to all applicable laws and regulations, including export controls. To comply with these regulations, TSMC stopped shipping to Huawei since mid-September 2020. The company stated it has a comprehensive mechanism to monitor and ensure compliance, swiftly acting on any suspicious circumstances to conduct due diligence and communicate with relevant parties.

The firm confirmed it proactively communicated with the U.S. Department of Commerce regarding the report's findings. TSMC has not been informed that it is the subject of any investigation.
