TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA, 外交部) expressed confidence on Tuesday (Nov. 5) in the steady development of Taiwan-U.S. relations following the U.S. presidential election. The ministry highlighted its engagement with both the Republican and Democratic parties, underscoring the bipartisan support for Taiwan within the United States.

MOFA spokesperson Jeff Liu (劉永健) emphasized earlier that day Taiwan's close ties with Washington. This statement comes as ballots for the U.S. election begin counting in Taiwan time on Nov. 6. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump recently accused Taiwan of stealing the U.S. chip business and reiterated his stance that Taiwan should pay for U.S. protection, of which Liu refused to comment directly.

The election will determine the 60th U.S. president and vice president, along with all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 34 Senate seats, forming the 119th U.S. Congress.
