TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council (MAC, 大陸委員會) emphasized the independence of its judicial system on Wednesday (Sept. 11), asserting no political party or administrative department can interfere.

The statement came in response to comments from China's Taiwan Affairs Office (國台辦) spokesperson Chen Binhua (陳斌華), who criticized the detention of Taiwan People's Party (TPP, 民眾黨) Chairman Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) in the Core Pacific City case (京華城案) as an example of "green terror," a term directed at the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨).

Chen remarked that since President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) took office, his administration has been manipulating judicial and administrative tools to target those who do not support the DPP or Taiwan independence. He claimed the government aims to suppress dissent through these means.

The MAC countered these allegations, stating that Taiwan's judicial system operates independently, unlike the authoritarian system in China where the judiciary serves the Communist Party.

The MAC's written statement highlighted Taiwan's democratic system, which ensures checks and balances, and guarantees citizens' rights through due process.

The MAC urged China to abandon its narrow perspective on Taiwan and warned that attempts to exploit divisions would only expose China's own shortcomings, making it a laughingstock on the global stage.
